The Suzuki Philosophy

"Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance.
They get a beautiful heart."

- Shinichi Suzuki

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998) was a Japanese violinist and teacher who developed the Suzuki method for teaching violin to very young children. His goals went beyond teaching the instrument, and included developing an appreciation of beauty, giving a sense of purpose to life, learning the discipline of acquiring a skill and having a good character as a person. The purpose of learning music then, is not with the sole focus on becoming a great artist but instead finding the joy that comes through music-making.
